Privacy Notice

This is a personal blog. It is built to collect as little data as possible: no cookies, no third-party trackers, no ads, and the little that is measured never leaves my own infrastructure.

What this site does not do #

  • It does not set cookies.
  • It does not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.
  • It does not load fonts, scripts, or other resources from third-party servers.
  • It does not have user accounts, comment forms, or newsletters, so no personal data is submitted through the site.
  • It does not use automated decision-making or profiling.

Hosting and server logs #

The site consists of static pages served from a server operated by me and rented from IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Straße 57, 56410 Montabaur. The provider acts as a processor within the meaning of Art. 28 GDPR; a data processing agreement is in place.

To deliver a page, the web server necessarily processes your IP address for the duration of the request. The server is not configured to keep access logs, so this information is not written to log files and is not retained after the request completes.

Analytics #

To get a basic idea of how many people read this blog, the site uses a self-hosted instance of GoatCounter, running on the same infrastructure as the site itself. No data is shared with any third party.

GoatCounter does not use cookies. When you view a page, it records:

  • the page you visited and the referring site (if any),
  • browser and operating system type,
  • screen size,
  • the country derived from your IP address.

Your IP address itself is not stored. A short-lived hash derived from it is used only to distinguish unique visits within a day and is discarded afterward; it is not used to identify individual visitors.

All processing described above rests on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interests pursued are the secure and reliable operation of this website, and understanding roughly how many people read it.

Aggregated visit counts contain no identifiers and are retained indefinitely. The daily hash used to distinguish unique visits is discarded after 24 hours. No other data is stored.

Posts may link to external websites. Once you follow such a link, the privacy policy of that site applies. This site does not embed content from external services.

Your rights #

You have the right to request access to your personal data (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), and to object to processing (Art. 21). Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time with effect for the future.

In practice this site stores nothing that would allow me to identify you, so a request will usually result in confirmation that no data concerning you is held. You are nevertheless welcome to ask at k@belinski.dev.

Right to object #

Where processing is based on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, you have the right to object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to the processing of personal data concerning you. In that case I will no longer process the data unless I can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests, rights and freedoms.
